The first actual settler of Polk township was Mr. Thompson. He came there in 1844, and died not long afterward. None of his history is accessible to us. Following him came Elias Bridgewater in 1852, from Orange county Indiana. Mr. Bridgewater settled on section 6, where he still resides. In 1877 he suffered the loss of his aged wife and helpmeet by drowning. In a condition of mental aberration she threw herself into a deep well, and when her body was taken out she had long been dead.

HOMAS BRIDGEWATER:http://www.rootsweb.com/~iataylor/queries/tci117c.html
Last night (January 22, 2004) I visited at the Thomas Bridgewater/Luvisa Elkins family sheet. Is there additional contact that I can make with this family group? I see there is a Hazel P. Bridgewater listed in Portland but the date of information is 02 February, 1977. Do you know if that is still current mailing information? I have mailed a letter to Hazel P. Bridgewater but expect that the Bridgewaters, Shearers, Kuhns, McGuires and Bowels all in the Washington/Oregon area might also be interested some day not to mention the search for the ancestors of George Hamilton Darland. Thanks again for your interest,Please advise.Sincerely,Darwin SaylorSan Diego darlinsayl@earthlink.net
