Annotation

LAFONTAINE, CHARLES

The earliest occurrence of the LAFONTAINE name on French Prairie seems to be that of CHARLES LAFONTAINE on the 1844 Tax Roll, when he paid 89 cents tax on his horses, cattle and hogs.  He does not appear on the 1850 Census Roll.

PETER LAFONTAINE, "a 22 year-old adventurer from Vermont" was living at Frenchtown, near Walla Walla, in 1855.  Relationships, if any, between the two branches of that name are not known.
